ETC English Teaching College
Overview
English Teaching College is the most multi-cultural Private Training Institute in New Zealand with a long tradition in teaching English to international students, migrants and refugees. Since our accreditation in 1993 we have welcomed students from over 60 different countries. While studying with us, students can find friends from almost every country in the world.
Our schools in Palmerston North and Wellington have strong links with the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), New Zealand Immigration, Work & Income New Zealand and other complimentary programmes as well as social agencies. We offer pathways to Massey University Palmerston North and Ucol.
Location Palmerston North
Our campus in Palmerston North is located in the centre of the city. Massey University is a five-minute bus ride away and Ucol is across the street. Within two blocks you can visit the Palmerston North library, art gallery and science museum. Palmerston North is known as the Student City. It is close to Wellington, Tongariro National Park, Lake Taupo, Hawkes Bay and Taranaki.
The campus is in a spacious building, catering for 150 students. There are 14 fully equipped classrooms and a cosy student lounge with kitchen facilities.

ETC Wellington recently moved to new premises in Willis Street. The school is now located directly in the heart of Wellington within walking distance of Courtenay Place, Cuba Street and Manners Mall. Wellington is known as the “Capital of Cool” and home of Government, Arts and Education. Students will find many interesting places to visit such as Te Papa Museum, art galleries, movie theatres and a variety of ethnic and western restaurants as well as bohemian cafes and bars.
The new campus is in a modern building, catering for 100 students in 6 fully equipped classrooms, a modern computer suite and is close to Victoria University and Massey University.
Our offer
As we focus on high quality teaching, our students attain excellent examination results (IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, OET). We have the opportunity to offer that high standard of teaching due to our small class size. Our average class contains 12 students, so our teachers can give special attention to each student. We provide text books, video tapes, listening tapes free for our students to use and the city libraries are close to the schools.
Activities like canoeing, farm visits, sports games, BBQ and art classes are available and students are encouraged to take part.
Our courses
We offer General English Courses, Academic English Courses, IELTS Preparation, TOEIC Preparation, TOEFL Preparation, 1 to 1 Tuition, English for Migrants, English for Living in New Zealand, Training Opportunities, English for Health Professionals (OET), Employment English and Executive English Lessons.
Enrolment dates
International students can enrol any time. Students are welcome to start their course every Monday.
Entry requirements
ETC has to assess the individual level of English of each student in order to counsel them about the courses they can attend, their further study possibilities and potential exam preparation opportunities.
